Busy Busy Busy

I have been trialing and testing some old recipes and I am so pleased with the results.

Homemade Lemon curd was first off the mark and it disappeared so fast batch number two was made 2 days later!!!

Then it was my welsh cakes for the W I meeting again they went with a blink of the eye.

Sunday it was off to the shops to buy some materials and wools for a new project,
another rabbit a sister for primrose which has been started I am glad to say but this time I am
going to sell her!!

My mind has been working overtime and I have been busy making new wedding favours for my etsy store www.etsy.com/shop/melyshoney

I have also been approached to make jams for a local eatery so have been trying out some different jams but what can you make this time of year!!

The answer to that my friend is Matrimony Jam, this is an unexpected delight a fusion of apples, pears, and plums it is so good I am going to sell it on my site, hop over to the above link
if you fancy trying a pot.

Come back soon for another update

Finished Article

Well the weekend brought many surprises good and bad!

I took my rabbits to the show in Chester and won best of breed with my Coloured Satin and the Sable buck went Best Fur under 5 months. I was just beaten for Best Fur by a Havana rabbit, but was very pleased with my result.

I took the opportunity to call at my daughter's on the way home as she is a fabulous critic and I can always depend on her for some honest feedback. Primrose was very well received, she thought it was very good and eve asked me to knit her one.

So it looks like I will be keeping it and entering it into the show in September.

What to do next??

On Friday I found a bargain in a local charity shop, 8 balls of Tartan knitting wool, all I need to do now is find something to knit, which I can enter into a different category, this time it has to be a garment of some sorts.

I went down with the dreaded flu on Saturday night so that was the bad!! but hopefully I can do some research and find a god pattern whilst I am laid up.

My other rabbits

What a day! For the second week running I have been laid off on friday from work. Not feeling 100% think I am going down with Mel's cold(man flu), but after dosing my self up felt well enough to tackle my rabbits. I have entered six of them into a show in Chester tomorrow and need to groom them. I am very pleased with the way they are looking and have to hope the judge thinks so too. It was the turn of primrose next I had a jumper to finish two flowers to knit and a pompon to make and yes I have done it at last. The first person to see it completed was hubby who did nothing but criticise and find it's faults. So now I am a little worried that it is not good enough. I think I will sleep on it. Wish me luck at the show! I will be back tomorrow to let you know how we got on. Nite nite

Primrose Rabbit

Primrose rabbit is coming along, but is taking me a little longer than I thought so it is a good job I decided to start so early in the year if this is anything to go by. Far to many distractions are keeping me from my knitting.
I am glad to report thought that she is nearly finished her knickerbockers are complete and her jumper is half done, so it shouldn't be to long now.. please come back and check in a weeks time!

Entry Number One - on the Go!!

Well I have decided to make the first of my craft entries and it is a fabulous pattern of a knitted rabbit. I first saw this pattern back in November on the Etsy site I use, but I didn't have time to make it just then so when I saw the Knitted Article Catergory I knew I had to knit this Bunny.
The pattern was purchased as a PDF from Mary Jane's Tearoom where you can find a whole host of gorgeous knitted rabbits and mice patterns. The one I am doing is Primrose.

The instructions are very easy and clear to understand and last night I completed knitting the body, the bit I am struggling with is the same as always for me the making up! If I loose points it will probably be in this area and as I have only ever knitted one other toy before getting the stuffing filled without being lumpy is another issue for me but I have done my best.

Knitting the clothing is the next job and I am looking forward to doing this this week, unfortunately I cant do any tonight as I have a WI meeting to attend!

Welcome to my 2012 Best In Show Diary

I recently joined a local Women's Institute in my area, it was brand new and newly formed and I was quickly roped in on the committee. I was a member way back in the eighties but my local club folded due to lack of support, and I didn't have the time to get involved with another group until now.

I was very keen on entering craft competitions back them and used to do quite well, so on rejoining I wanted to know whether they still ran these comps now. Whey hey they do and there is a big one coming up in September.

Inspired by Kirsty Allsop and her Best in Show series I am planning to enter a few categories.
I was given the entry form at our last meeting and having studied it I have decided to enter 21 entries!!!

With careful planning I think I can achieve this (i hope)

I have decided to start  making the entries for all the crafting side of things now, this will then leave me time to make the preserves later in season and the baking side of things will be done last minute, that's the plan anyway.

My aim is to also keep you up to date with how it is all going so my blog this year will be dedicated to
"Best in Show", well you have to aim high don't you!
